Asian RPET: Prices rise; spread of virgin PET increases / FOB SE Asian flakes and pellets are up $5/mt in the past week / Virgin-recycled PE pellets are now available in a wider range of sizes - Sep 05, 2024

The price of recycled polyethylene terephthalate FOB Southeast Asia increased slightly during the week ended September 4 due to a continued shortage of bales. R-PET clear and premium-grade flake prices were up $5/mt from the previous week, at $855/mt & $950/mt respectively. R-PET food-grade pellets also increased by $5/mt in the past week to $1,320/mt. Both R-PET pellets and flakes were receiving mixed reviews from buyers. Deals and discussions are ongoing in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Questions are being asked, but there is no conclusive answer. An Indonesian recycler stated that customers are aware of the reasons why prices are increasing. A Thai recycler also said that they receive inquiries but that "no deal is confirmed." Container rates between SE Asia and major European ports are reportedly easing...
