Asian RPET: Prices of food-grade pellets rise due to shortage / Food-grade Demand in the US is healthy and Europe weak / PET bottle bales collection slow during rainy season

Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate FOB Southeast Asia Prices were mixed on August 14, with prices for food-grade RPET pellets higher due to a tight supply while clear flakes prices remained steady. R-PET clear and premium-grade RPET flakes were steady at $820/mt each, and $915/mt respectively. Food-grade RPET pellets, however, rose $30/mt in the past week to $1,270/mt. Food-grade RPET pellets were the subject of increased discussions in the week ending August 14. Deals were concluded for $1,350/mt FOM Malaysia and $1400-$1,600/mt FOM Thailand. These cargoes are likely to be heading for the European market, not the US. Market sources confirmed this. A trader replied, "Not at the current freight rates."
