Due to regional holidays, there were few discussions about the Asian recycled high-density polyethylene in the week leading up to September 18. Some sources used post-industrial resin in place of postconsumer for ease of usage, but some brand owners resisted this because it would not solve sustainability issues. New domestic capacity and weak demand for HDPE pushed down virgin HDPE prices, while the price of recycled resin was more resistant to this downward pressure. Sellers continued to rely on sustainability-focused buyers, as the converters who were not bound by mandates were opting for virgin resin to help maintain trading margins, sources said.
