Asian Recycled Pet: Prices Rise amid Tight Supply and Easing Exchange Rates / PET bales in short supply across the region / Pellets of food-grade competition with virgin

Prices for recycled polyethylene terephthalate FOB Southeast Asia were higher on August 21 due to a tight supply of feedstock. R-PET clear and premium-grade flake prices were up by $25/mt per week, at $845/mt et $940/mt respectively. Food-grade RPET pellets, however, rose by $40/mt to $1,310/mt. Producers said that their higher supply costs, and the stronger ASEAN currencies against greenback, are driving up the offer prices. "Buyers want lower prices but bale prices have gone up so we cannot lower our prices." "We are still in negotiation," said a recycler. In Southeast Asia, the PET bale supply is tight due to rainy seasons and large orders that require more material.
