Asian Recycled LLDPE: Thin trade as buyers keep to the sidelines / Virgin LDPE Prices Increase in China / Overall demand for recycled materials remains weak

The Asian low density polyethylene market was quiet in the week ending February 19, as buyers remained on the sidelines. On February 19, the price of Asian recycled LDPE film increased by $10/mt from last week to $760/mt F.O.B. Southeast Asia. This is similar to the virgin market where LDPE prices in China have risen week-over-week due to the expectation of a supply shortage owing to plant shutdowns both in China and the Middle East. LDPE film CFR Fareast Asia up $5/mt weekover week at $1,135/mt on Feb. 19.However, market participants say overall demand forrecycled material remains weak and has not significantlyincreased.
