In the week ending September 18, the Asian recycled low density Polyethylene market was stable due to slow trading caused by the Mid- Autumn Festival. Producers said that the lack of economic growth has hampered demand, and sustainability projects have been facing funding delays. Sources on the market said that higher-quality renewable products, which are close to virgin materials, are more expensive and that consumers were not willing to pay extra to recycle. Some market participants are considering bio-based materials to reduce their use of fossil-based polymers. They said that the price was prohibitive and more than twice the current fossil-fuel-based polymer prices. In Asia, no laws that would force consumers to pay more have been enforced.
