Asian Recycled LLDPE: Demand from India is on the Rise / Supply tightens amid India plant closures / Slow demand in China

In the week ending Jan. 22, the Asian recycled low density plastic market grew, mainly due to an increase in demand for the India market. Asian recycled LDPE film pellets increased $10/mt from week to week, reaching $750/mt at FOB Southeast Asia on Jan. 22, 2019. A trader stated that Indian customers were buying more LDPE and the prices for recycled LDPE are now up by $5-$10/mt. Sources said that the increased demand was driven by sentiment, as there is expected to be a tightening of supply in India, due to several LLDPE and LDPE factories being shut down. Reliance Industries, based in India, will shut down the LLDPE production line at its polyethylene facility in Jamnagar (Gujarat) for routine maintenance for 14 days starting Jan. 21.
