Asian Recycled HDPE: Markets End Stable amid Unchanged Fundamentals / Trading thin in SE Asia and China / Virgin material competition caps prices - Feb 22, 2025

The Asian market for high density polyethylene remained stable during the week ending February 19, despite unchanged fundamentals in terms of demand and supply. On February 19, recycled HDPE film pellets of natural color were assessed at $755/mt, a week-over-week increase. HDPE black blowmolding was also assessed at $575/mt, a week-over week increase. The competition from virgin materials keeps prices low. A trader said that fluctuations in crude oil have driven virgin plastic prices down, causing some companies to prefer virgin over recycled materials. Another trader stated that scrap HDPE material prices have also dropped due to the constant competition with prime HDPE. As the Chinese market becomes weaker, sources have noted a shift in trade flows. Suppliers are looking to export their recycled plastic to Southeast Asia and elsewhere....
