Asian Recycled HDPE: Stable amid muted trade ahead of holidays / Sluggish Chinese demand / Import restrictions present challenges for SE Asia recycling companies

In a week of muted trading, the Asian market for recycled high-density polyethylene saw little change. On Jan 22, recycled HDPE film pellets were unchanged from the previous week, at $755/mt FOM Southeast Asia. HDPE black blow-molding pellets were also stable at $575/mt FOM Southeast Asia. Sources said that China did not see a significant increase in demand as many downstream factories had begun to close for the Lunar New Year. Prices are being negatively affected by the downward trend in prime materials. A trader stated that prices in China were no longer comparable with other Asian markets and that recyclers did not export to China.
