Asia Recycled HDPE: Stable amid thin Trade / Thin trade due to mid-autumn holidays / Cheap virgin resin discourages recycled use

Due to regional holidays, there were few discussions about the Asian recycled high-density polyethylene in the week leading up to September 18. Some sources used post-industrial resin in place of postconsumer for ease of usage, but some brand owners refused to accept this solution as it would not solve sustainability issues. New domestic capacity and a weaker consumer demand pushed virgin HDPE resin prices down, while the price of recycled HDPE was more resistant to this downward pressure. Sellers continued to rely on sustainability-focused buyers, as the converters who were not bound by mandates were opting for virgin resin to help maintain trading margins, sources said.
