The prices of Asian Paraxylene rose on May
24, despite a rise in crude oil prices. Asian paraxylene was up $5.50/mt for the day, at
$984.50/mt. The July ICE Brent crude futures contract rose
$1.68/b at 4:30 pm Singapore time from the previous Asian closing price of
$77.66/b. Market participants continue to worry about the
downstream demand in China. While the recovery that was expected
in the second quarter has yet to materialize, traders are expecting demand
indicators to improve in the third quarter. Sources said
that a growth in Chinese downstream consumption could boost the sentiment for
