Rates of operating rates to fall in March /High inventory pressures affecting buying interest

Caprolactam in Asia was $10/mt less per week than the previous week, at $1.435/mt CFR Far East Asia (March 13), due to lower benzene and trade uncertainty. A buyer said that caprolactam was tracking recent benzene weakness. The market is still confident, but the recent trade uncertainty has severely weakened it. A producer stated that he was seeing a decline in sales and the downstream demand this year is worse than last year during the same time period. According to one market participant, high inventory levels have forced buyers to only restock as needed. Participants expect that the March turnarounds of several plants will cushion the downside.
