Spot export homopolymer and copolymer polypropylene prices rose 4 cents/lb, or $88/mt, on the week May 15, with increasing global freight rates and higher regional prices lending support to the increase. Multiple market participants reported deals done at higher levels in the latter half of the May 9-15 period for homopolymer-grade PP. Indications of value were heard at 50 cents/lb rail car basis, with prices talked as high as 56 cents/lb or $1,235/mt FAS Houston. Sources said deals were workable at these higher levels as Latin American customers sought alternatives to Asian-origin supply.
