Asian R-PET: Prices stable amid softer demand / Offers mostly stable on export demand fluctuations / Buyers' acceptance of rising ocean freight costs - Nov 28, 2024

The price of recycled polyethylene terephthalate pellets and flake on a FOB Southeast Asia basis remained stable in the week ending Nov. 27 due to a softening demand, low virgin PET prices, and high bottle bale costs. Sources in the trade agreed that export demand had weakened due to high ocean shipping costs and a general year-end weakness. A European flakes trader stated that the [overall] market was weakening, but also due to end-of-year destocking and overall weakness. A recycler in Indonesia said that inquiries were still coming in but they took time to be converted into actual deals.
