Quiet trade after holidays / Ube to stop all Asian caprolactam manufacturing by 2027

Prices for Asian caprolactams were stable at $1,470/mt CFR Fareast Asia on Feb. 6 amid quiet trading activity as the market slowly returned from Lunar New Year holidays. After the Lunar New Year holiday, prices in the domestic China market have continued to recover. Prices were heard increasing around Yuan 100-150/mt as compared to before the holidays. In east China, on February 6, the most liquid grade, the molten, was trading between Yuan 10,800-10.850/mt. Ube, a Japanese company, announced on January 28 that its Asia sites in Japan and Thailand will cease production of caprolactam by 2027. This move will likely further reduce the number of caprolactam consumers in the region. It's because there are fewer suppliers, and this is what keeps price ideas up despite the relatively depressed China...
