On May 24, Asian isomer grade mixed xylene
increased $12/mt from day to day, reaching $900.50/mt for FOB Korea and
$923.50/mt for CFR Unv1. It also rose $4/mt to $917/mt FOR CFR China due in
part to higher crude oil prices. A trader
stated that demand is low due to the fact that arbitrage for spot cargoes going
to the US has been closed and the paraxylene feed margins are still below
profitable levels. The US MX market, after June, was also steeply backwardated. A second
trader stated that the Asian MX markets could go into contango as a result of
weaker immediate demand. Prices in China were also somewhat
