The prices for Asian Paraxylene were higher
on May 23, following an increase in crude oil prices, though the overall
sentiment remained weak. Asian
paraxylene was up $10/mt for the day, at $979/mt. A trader from China stated that the PX-Naphtha differential
has decreased in accordance with lower Asian PX prices, but is still favorable
for producers. The PX-Naphtha Spread was
$390.75-410.85/mt at the Asia Close on May 23. Data showed that the spread had narrowed dramatically over
the last few weeks, as PX prices dropped due to a weakening of sentiment. A trader from China stated that the current spread levels
were still a good enough incentive for producers of PX to continue making the
