PX falls $13.34/mt / Spread between MX and naphtha reaches six-month-high

On April 18, Asian isomer grade mixed xylenes fell $7.50/mt on a day-to-day basis at $978/mt at FOB Korea; $994/mt at CFR Unv1; and $974/mt at CFR China, due to a fall in upstream oil prices. In Asian trade at 0830 GMT, June ICE Brent crude futures were $2.74/b less at $86.97/b, while downstream paraxylene was down $13.34/mt for the day, at $1,056.33/mt, CFR Unv1/China. This caused MX prices to fall. Although crude futures fell even further intraday, FOB Korea bids for May H2 cargoes helped to support MX prices. The spread between MX versus naphtha increased to $284.38/mt. This is the largest since October 11, 2023 when it was $292/mt.
