Asian PVC Week Commentary / Prices in China are down due to the real estate crash / CFR India falls $40/mt

The week-end July 31 saw a drop of $15 to $40/mt in Asian polyvinyl chloride prices, due to a lackluster demand on the Indian and Chinese domestic markets. The PVC CFR China mark remained stable at $800/mt on the week, amid thin discussion where market participants indicated that China had not been importing PVC. CFR Southeast Asia fell $15/mt per week to $805/mt by the close of the Asian market on July 31. South Korea cargoes dominated the market. Some market participants are finding that PVC production is less profitable as a result. The spot market could see an increase in upstream VCM products being offered. Formosa Plastics Corporation, Taiwan plans to close its 800,000.mt/year Vinyl chloride monomer plant in Mailiao from mid-August until September to perform its annual maintenance....
