On Nov. 6, Asian polyvinyl was valued at $760/mt CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia. Market participants were largely apathetic after India's preliminary decision imposing antidumping duties on imports of suspension-grade PVC originating from or exported to China, Indonesia Japan, South Korea Taiwan Thailand and the US. The duties will range between $51-$339/mt depending on origin. Sources in the market said that the decision was still "preliminary", and allowed participants to submit comments to the government before the final decision. China's PVC industry sentiment declined after the announcement, as exports were likely to be affected. According to sources on the market, the imposition of these tariffs could reduce the competitiveness Chinese PVC on the Indian market.
