India PTA: Prices drop tracking upstream paraxylene / Demand is softening amid lower-cost imports / CFR China-India Spread narrows to $109/mt

Prices of purified terephthalic acids CFR India dropped by $23/mt during the week ending August 9, due to a slowdown in demand and a decline in paraxylene. PTA buyers are struggling to sell their end-products due to cheaper Chinese imports. An Indian buyer stated that "demand is very weak and we are having issues selling downstream end-products as cheaper Chinese imports continue to be imported." Another buyer stated that "paraxylene prices have not recovered and the uncertainty on the market seems to be driving away buyers." Also, the demand for our final product doesn't appear to be improving." A PTA manufacturer in India said that "demand is not good and downstream demand is affecting the Indian polyester producers."
