India PTA: Prices continue falling amid softening of demand / Sluggish polyester demand leads to a reduction in operating rates / CFR China-India Spread narrows to $92/mt

The price of Indian purified terephthalic acid CFR India dropped $17/mt during the week ended August 23, due to a slowdown in demand and lower freight costs. PTA demand in India was said to be slow due to slower downstream demand, and large PTA inventories at the buyers. A buyer of PTA in India said, "Demand really slow. The downstream situation is not good". He added: "Polyester is in short supply as cheap material is imported from China." Indian sources report that polyester operating rates are below 75% in India due to slow downstream demand.
