India PTA: Declines tracking upstream prices / Polyester producers cut operating rates / Freight is a major concern for PTA purchasers

Purified terephthalic acids CFR India prices dropped $8/mt during the week ending July 12 due to a decline in upstream value, reports the. According to market sources, the tighter PTA supply has led to a decrease in polyester operating rates. An Indian buyer said, "we are forced to lower operating rates because PTA supplies are extremely tight." He said that domestic supplies were affected by the shutdown of some PTA production lines. Other participants struggled to maintain stable PTA supply. As of July 12, the CFR China- CFR India spread remained at $130/mt. According to market sources, PTA prices have fallen in India due to lower paraxylene upstream prices. Paraxylene fell $11.66/mt in a week, to $1 025.67/mt July 12.
