India PTA: Weak Demand Continues to Pressure Prices / The pre-festive shopping remains weak / CFR China-India Spread narrows to $74/mt

Purified terephthalic acids CFR India fell $17/mt during the week ending August 30, due to a slowdown in demand and lower freights. Buyers in India reported that market fundamentals are weak, as the pre-festive buying season is still elusive. A buyer in India said: "Demand has been really low." We normally see a rise in demand during this time, but the situation hasn't improved. He continued, "We must cut our polyester operating rates because downstream demand does not seem to meet market expectations." A PTA buyer from India stated, "Many PTA buyers have purchased material in break bulk over the last month to prepare for the festive season. However, the demand has so far been disappointing."
