PTA inventories have continued to increase in China as the buying interest has become lessening. The PTA FOB China was $659/mt at the end of the day on Sept. 6. This is down $4/mt from the previous day. PTA FOB China had averaged $669.40/mt lower in the past week. The reason for the weak price was PTA. This also caused downstream [PX] to collapse. The downstream activity in China is still weak despite the winter season demand. A second trader from China added that the polyester plant operation rates are slightly higher, but remain below 90%. The second trader stated that "[Polyester Plants] should maintain this level of operation rates since September andOctober is generally peak season," the third trader added.
