India PTA: Improved container availability signals easier freight / Imports of breakbulk are expected to ease the supply. / CFR China-India Spread narrows to $114/mt

The price of Indian purified terephthalic acids CFR India dropped $9/mt during the week ending August 2, due to the fall in upstream prices. Market sources in India reported that polyester operating rates were at around 80%. This indicates an improvement, with marginally more supply. On Aug. 2, the CFR China- CFR India spread decreased to $114/mt, a $14/mt decrease from July. The drop in freights occurred on August 26. A PTA buyer in India said that supplies have been tight but a slight improvement is expected, as buyers are resorting to breakbulk imports. Also, the availability of containers is improving, which will likely ease freight costs. A PTA producer in India said: "Freights on containers have improved, but the price drop is not very dramatic."
