PTA producers are facing a struggle with rising stocks and declining polyester demand in Asia despite an increase in downstream rates. PTA FOB China was $638/mt in November 8, an increase of $3/mt for the day. The PTA FOB China averaged at $637.80/mt during the week ending Nov. 8. A trader in China stated that PTA inventories were still high. The trader stated that inventories have been increasing since the first quarter of this year. The same trader stated that PTA producers in Asia struggle to find buyers, despite the falling PX prices upstream. A second trader from China stated that although PTA margins on domestic cargoes have improved, it is not enough to reduce the high inventory levels.
