Asian PTA : Market weakens due to high China inventories / Low demand in China / Indian demand expected robust

PTA CFR China assessment decreased by $16/mt on the week to $654/mt on February 28. This was due to PX prices falling during the Platts market on Close assessment on that day. PTA prices in China were weak all week and PX prices in Asia also fell. China-based sources blamed the weak PTA in China on a lack of downstream demand from the PET and Polyester industries. FOB China prices for March fell during the past week. According to one source, the price dropped from $675/mt F.O.B. China to $665/mt F.O.B. China.
