Asian PS : prices unchanged, offers stable or lower /SM Upstream rises by $10.50/mt in a week / PS operating rate drops to 59.15% in week

On August 28, CFR China's general-purpose polystyrene (GPPS) and high-impact PS (PSH) prices were stable from week to week at $1,250/mt each and $1,345/mt respectively, despite a stronger styrene value. Based on market indicators heard between $10-$20/mt, the spread between CFR Southeast Asia PS and CFR China PS remained unchanged at $20/mt. The offers heard this week ranged from stable to lower. Those at the lower end of that range remained unchanged due to poor demand. A seller stated that the offer was not very different, but there is almost no deal. Some sources on the market also stated that spot discussions were limited because of volatile upstream price fluctuations. High freight rates make it hard for us to ship PS to distant places.
