polystyrene prices fell in the week to May 17 as demand and the upstream
styrene monomer market weakened. The sharpest decrease was seen in the
general-purpose polystyrene CFR Southeast Asia marker. The CFR Southeast
Asia marker dropped $65/mt week on week to $1,160/mt on May 17, while the CFR
China marker declined $35/mt during the period to $1,110/mt. Offers for
FOB China cargoes were heard at $1,150/mt, whereas domestic price levels were
heard falling Yuan 250-350/ mt from a week earlier. The gap between the CFR
China assessment and domestic prices on an import-parity basis was steady week
on week around $80-$100/mt. Producers had high inventory levels and were
