Asian PS: Stable, as producers maintain levels of offer despite upstream volatility / SM Upstream falls $22/mt in a week / China PS operating rates increase, EPS rates decline - Sep 30, 2024

On Sept. 25, CFR China's general-purpose polystyrene (GPPS) and high-impact PS (PSH) prices were stable from week to week, at $1,240/mt each, as producers maintained their offer levels. CFR China's upstream styrene-monomer marker was $1,059.50/mt, down $22/mt from the previous week, after increasing $27.50/mt the week before. Customers are concerned that SM prices have fallen so dramatically this week. This is a bad sign for them as they expect the price to fall further. Customers expect ocean freight in Europe to continue to fall further in October. However, we only have a small volume for this market," said a producer, adding that there were no orders coming from the Middle East or Latin America due to the lower delivered prices of cargoes from other origins.
