Asian PS: Prices stable despite higher upstream prices; weak demand heard / Market fundamentals remain poor / China PS and EPS operating rates up on week

CFR China general-purpose polystyrene and high-impact polystyrene prices stable week on week at $1,210/ mt and $1,300/mt, respectively, on Nov. 20. The CFR Southeast Asia general-purpose polystyrene and high-impact polystyrene markers were also assessed stable on the week at $1,225/mt and $1,315/mt, tracking the stability in the CFR China markers. Producers broadly kept offer levels stable this week despite higher upstream benzene and SM prices as market fundamentals remain poor. "I'm not seeing an improvement in demand so even if upstream costs have increased, it is difficult for producers to raise offer levels," a market source shared. Other market participants shared that demand has become weaker this week alongside limited trading activity, as buyers are not keen on stocking inventories nearing the end of year season.
