Asian Propylene prices: Prices are stable or even rising due to tighter supply in SE Asia / Southeast Asian prices are rising / JG Summit closes naphtha steam cracker

Due to tighter supply in Southeast Asia, Asian propylene prices increased on July 26. Supply has been tightened due to some producers undergoing turnarounds. The market has seen a rise in spot buying, as some offers are higher. JG Summit, in the Philippines, has closed its steam cracker that uses naphtha because of Typhoon Gaemi. The cracker is capable of producing 480,000 mt/year ethylene, 220,000mt/year propylene, and 70,000-80,000mt/year butadiene. Details of the restart could not be determined. The CFR Southeast Asian Propylene Marker rose $10/mt in a week to $920/mt by July 26. The Japanese propylene markets were mixed. A Taiwanese source stated that it was "quite difficult" for the FOB Japan price to be higher, and added that the weak demand in the downstream polypropylene sector is pushing prices...
