Asian Propylene: Prices stable amid quiet Chinese, South Korean markets / PP-Propylene Spread Narrows Due to Weak Downstream / Mitsui Chemicals restarts Ichihara Cracker Next Week

On August 14, Asian propylene was mostly stable due to unchanged conditions of demand and supply in China and South Korea. On August 14, the Shandong propylene market price increased by Yuan 15/mt to Yuan 6,840/mt, while the Eastern China market price remained unchanged at Yuan 7050/mt. the propylene CFR China marker unchanged on the day, or down $5/mt on the week, at $865/mt on August 14, while the Asian polypropylene-propylene spread narrowed on the day by $5/mt to $35/mt, below the typical breakeven spread of $150/mt, reflecting an increasingly oversupplied downstream polypropylene market. Mitsui Chemicals, Japan's largest chemical company, plans to restart the naphtha-fed steam cracker at Ichihara in next week following an emergency shutdown. The cracker had been shut down earlier this week because of unidentified technical problems....
