Asian Propylene markets: Asian markets stable amid thin discussion / Week-long Lunar New Year Holiday in Asia / Taiwan's earthquake has little impact on the production of propylene

Despite a lack of discussion, Asian propylene was stable for the week ending Jan. 24. CFR Southeast Asia remained unchanged at $850/mt while CFR China remained at $870/mt. Most market participants are away during the weeklong Lunar New Year holiday. Discussions will be limited. According to sources, a trade was completed with a parcel being traded to Shandong for $880/mt. A market source stated that "other than a few cargoes traded domestically, the market is quiet" before the holidays. Several market players have stated that buyers are not interested in purchasing propylene at the current prices as PP manufacturers struggle to make a profit. Sources in Taiwan have reported that the refineries were not affected by the earthquake which hit southern Taiwan this week.
