Asian propylene prices mostly weakened week over week, dragged down by weaker demand ahead of China’s long holiday, as also a large propane dehydrogenation unit in Shandong was resuming production and demand from polypropylene was weakening, market sources said during the week. The CFR China marker fell $10/mt week over week as market indications and domestic price levels in China dropped lower. A trader said, “[The] PP market is too weak.” One key factor market sources pointed to was increasing supply as China’s Zhenhua Petrochemical is set to restart its 750,000-mt/year PDH plant in Shandong in the week starting Sept. 22, a source close to the company said Sept. 23.
