In the week ending March 24, the European
toluene industry gained, supported by increased export interest and bids. The M1 March toluene CIF
ARA premium was $293.25/mt March 24, an increase of $23/mt. Although there was a lot of demand for March delivery, some
bidders were able to make offers throughout the week. However, the supply was
limited and some producers were sold out for the month. The lack of prompt supply caused prices to rise to a
four-month peak. However, downstream demand was relatively stable with Europe's
overall toluene consumption remaining soft. Production margins were also improved by the rise in prices,
which saw breakeven costs at around $250-270/mt. A seller stated that producers are often short due to their
