Prices of Asian pure terephthalic acids fell during the week ending April 26 due to a lackluster demand. Sources said. Purified terephthalic acids CFR China and CFR India were down by $11/mt each in the week ending April 26. Sources claim that PTA producers are opting to turn around their operations in Asia as margins remain weak because of a struggling downstream industry, which is grappling with high inventories and despite the steady decline in PX spot price. Sources said that several PTA producers began turnarounds in April, with others scheduled for May. Hengli Petrochemical, a Chinese PTA producer, shut down line 2 of its 5 million mt/year purified terephthalic plant in Houizhou this week for maintenance. Yisheng is also preparing to begin maintenance on its 3.6million mt/year Ningbo line....
