Styrene fell dramatically in Europe over
the weekend of June 5, as the demand level remained low, and there was little
evidence of a short-term improvement. On June 5, the five-to-30-days loading laycan of
styrene sat at $906.75/mt, down $74.50/mt since June 2. A European
producer reported that the mood on the market was weak and that demand was low. The demand
for styrene is weak in key sectors. Construction activity is low and the
automotive sector has not recovered from its significant drop in 2022. There was
little activity in the benzene market upstream. Over the
weekend, offers moved up as sources watched to see if the lower styrene price
would have an impact. The spread between these two products has
