The European spot MTBE
prices dropped on May 3, due to the selling activity that was seen in
conjunction with lower upstream prices. MTBE European FOB ARA was $986/mt on May 3, down $51.75/mt on that day.
This is in line with recent trades seen during the Market on Close process. The premium for the June gasoline swap fell by $16.75/mt to $263/mt. Two more trades occurred during the MOC, each at $993/mt. Sources said that fundamentals were unchanged, as demand remained healthy
and supply was improving. No imports from Europe were reported despite the US open arbitrage. In Asia, MTBE prices were assessed at $858/mt, FOB Singapore. This is down
by $46.51/mt from the previous day. Upstream prices have also fallen sharply,
