PP stocks in March exceeded 2 billion lb and reached a new multi-year record: ACC / Spot domestic homopolymer rail cars at 42 cents/lb

While US spot polypropylene export activity was thin in the week ending April 24, PP producers lowered their offers during the assessment period and feedstock costs declined from earlier in the year. On April 19, producers offered 48 cents/lb per rail car, and on April 24, they offered 47 cents/lb. Spot export prices for homopolymer or copolymer polypropylene were down by $22/mt (or 1 cent/lb) on week ending April 24. Market participants stated that even at the lower price point, PP exports were not attractive for global buyers due to resins from other regions being priced competitively. On April 24, one source indicated a notional homopolymer price of 37 cents/lb. On April 24, producers were said to be focused on selling domestically for better netbacks.
