Asian Benzene Prices Rise on Support from Upstream Markets, Styrene / Crude oil rises $1.50/b, styrene rise $10/mt / CPC seeks benzene for Oct delivery

The Asian benzene price rose $10.67/mt to $1,005.67/mt in the morning of Aug. 23 as the upstream markets recovered, and the downstream styrene market provided support. Brent futures for the front month rose $1.50/b during the session, to $77.54/b at the close of Asian trading on August 23. Naphtha prices rose $5.75/mt from $669/mt CFJ to the Asian close. CFR China is at $1,121.50/mt - up $10/mt in one day. The physical spread between the two-half September/October markets in the FOB Korea market continued to shrink to $17/mt during the session. H2 September laycans were assessed at $1,000/mt, while the October laycans were assessed at $1,000/mt. According to market sources, the local demand in Southeast Asia markets remained low.
