Asian Benzene Prices Rally as Upstream Markets Support / JG Summit closes BTX Plant due to Typhoon Gaemi / Benzene's decline is good news for downstream producers

After nine trading sessions of falling prices, Asian benzene rose $11/mt to $977.33/mt at FOB Korea on 27 July. The front-month ICE Brent contract increased $1.05/b in the session, to $82.36/b at the close of Asian trading. The C+F Japan mark for naphtha rose $7/mt in one day to $684/mt. A slight drop in the US Dollar amid expectations of US rate cuts has helped to ease downward pressure on crude prices. Crude oil prices have slumped this week to their lowest level in seven weeks. The Philippines' JG Summit has shut its naphtha-fed steam cracker and related benzene-toluene-xylene unit amid Typhoon Gaemi, trade sources said July 26.
