Increased polyester production rates support Asian MEG prices / Lotte US Gulf plant resumes operations

Amid stable US monoethylene-glycol spot prices, its coproduct diethylene-glycol rose by 1 cent in the week ending May 31, despite the fact that US monoethylene-glycol spot prices were relatively unchanged. One trader stated: "Some manufacturers could offer at higher prices." A producer also weighed in, offering an indication of 40 cents/lb DEG considering the talk of price increases on the week. Although indications pointed to possible price increases for US MEG in the near future, stability remained, while waiting for confirmation. A US producer stated that "prices are increasing because of Asia". MEG prices in Asia increased during the same time period due to the rise of crude oil prices and the slight increase in downstream polyester operating rates.
