Asian Paraxylene Prices Rise on Oil Support / Polyester plants build up inventories / China's ZPC lowers CDU rates, impact on aromatics is unknown

The prices of Asian Paraxylene were slightly higher due to the rise in crude oil prices, and potential support from a strong PET downstream market. Asian paraxylene was up $4/mt for the day, at $897.67/mt F.R. Taiwan/China on Oct. 11. Sources said that PX prices were supported by higher oil prices, but demand indicators in Asia barely kept up. A trader in China stated that despite the slowdown in demand, polyester plants will likely maintain high production rates and keep their operation rates. The trader stated that "Polyester plants will still increase their inventory, even though there are no profit margins."
