Asian PP : Prices increase on week after China resumes trading / Prices are driven by emotions / SE Asia PP price increases despite lackluster demand - Oct 14, 2024

Prices of Asian polypropylene were higher in the week ending Oct. 9 as Chinese participants returned to the market after the Golden Week holiday. Price movements are primarily driven more by sentiment than an increase in demand. Several trade sources have noted that the spot PP market in China has low trading volumes. Data showed that the price of raffia in China rose Yuan 50/mt over the course of the week, but dropped Yuan 100/mt the next day. The final price was Yuan 7,650/mt. A Chinese trader stated that macroeconomic optimism had been exaggerated and the market was now realigning itself with fundamentals of supply and demand. There is still some optimism about supply support, as Chinese PP plant turnarounds are scheduled in October. This could potentially ease supply pressure....
