Asian propylene was cheaper in the week ending September 13 due to a longer-term supply and a weaker demand. The market has focused on the increased supply coming from Southeast Asia. Several sell tenders have been offered over the last two weeks. These cargoes are likely to be shipped to Northeast Asia despite the continued weakness of downstream markets, according to sources. Propylene demand was also poor, as end users held off on purchasing due to recent weakness in the energy sector and low production margins.
