Strong downstream demand supported NBA prices / Higher feedstock costs pushes DOTP and DOP prices higher

Prices of Asian oxoalcohols continue to rise for the week ending Nov. 14. Higher prices were seen for butanol normal, 2-ethyl-hexanol and dioctyl-phthalate. These prices are in line with China's rising domestic prices. According to sources, China's production capacity was drastically reduced by 20% due to unplanned shutdowns of 2-ethyl-hexanol plants to fix production problems. This reduction in supply of 2-EH further tightened the market, driving 2-EH prices higher. A producer stated that the demand for 2-EH is also strong due to improved demand in China for downstream plasticizers. A producer noted that the strong buying sentiments had depleted inventories. He cited low stock levels among downstream producers because of escalating feedstock costs for 2-EH. This has forced them to increase their procurement and put upward pressure on 2-EH pricing....
