The spot price of monoethylene glycol in Europe rose slightly on August 9 due to a perceived tighter supply after a declaration of force majeure at Shell Moerdijk late July. Sources indicated an increase in demand, especially from the antifreeze sector ahead of the seasonality of September. One distributor reported that they had sold 600 mt of antifreeze in trucks between Eur600-605/mt FCA to multiple buyers, and the segment was very interested. The distributor stated that the high demand for contracts was not due to orders placed in September, but was rather for quick contracts. He added that there was an increase in the market for coolants and smaller loads. The Shell Moerdijk force majore affected the market.
