Prices of US Recycled HDPE increase due to high demand / HDPE bales natural prices increase after three weeks of stability / New York State Senate approves the PPRIA

Spot prices of US recycled high-density polyethylene increased in the week ending June 12 as buyers' interest was consistentlystrong. A recycler expressed a positive outlook forbuying interest and said that "June in terms of trading activity has been busierthan April and May." The strong demand for HDPE post-consumer bales has resulted in consecutive price increases since September 2023. A second recycler also echoed the bullish outlook for demand, but added some cautions. The demand has been strong and the prices are going up. However, packaging firms usually switch to virgin material when this occurs. The second recycler stated that when buyers switch to virgin resins, other bidders hold off and wait for the material to be cheaper. This creates a domino affect on prices.
